Nokia announces Lumia 1520 and 1320 phablets

Nokia Lumia 1520As widely expected, Nokia today unveiled the Lumia 1320 and Lumia 1520, two phablets with 6-inch displays at its Nokia World 2013 event (possibly its first before Microsoft’s acquisition closes). The 1520 is aimed at the higher end of the market while the Lumia 1320 is “going large at a lower price.” They are part of a wider announcement that saw Nokia announce six new devices, including its first Windows tablet.

Along with the new devices, Nokia also announced an updated version of Nokia Camera, . New apps include Nokia Storyteller which can create a chronological picture map by tying HERE location information to pictures, Nokia Rich Recording which works with the Lumia 1520’s four microphones and the Nokia Beamer app to make it easier to share content.

The Nokia Lumia 1520 will launch later this quarter in Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States, China and Europe (including Finland, France, Germany, and the UK). Other markets will follow but Canada has not been formally announced yet. It will sell for about US$750 outright.

The Nokia Lumia 1320 will launch first in China and Vietnam in early 2014. Other Asian markets, India and European markets will follow sometime afterwards. There is no word yet on availability in North America. It will sell for US$339 outright.
