Android 4.4.3 rolling out to Sprint Nexus 5 starting today?

The number of Android 4.4.3 builds that have surfaced recently are a good indication that Google is readying a maintenance release for launch in the near future. It now appears that it could start as early as today. A Sprint Wireless document that was last updated today indicates that the current version of Android for the Nexus 5 is KTU48F.

According to Sprint, the KTU48F build will enable Sprint Spark on Bands 26 and 41 and deliver a number of “miscellaneous Android updates.” Given that the Sprint version of the Nexus 5 is the same as the unlocked model offered on Google Play, it stands to reason that the same update will also roll out to the unlocked Nexus 5 shortly. But, given that we have seen some more recent builds (the latest being KTU84D), it is also possible that KTU48F will be Sprint-specific given its focus on the Sprint-only Sprint Spark feature (essentially enabling tri-band LTE).

A report just days ago suggested that Android 4.4.3 is now undergoing internal testing at Google. If so, testing may have started sooner than anyone expected and gone well enough to now move to wider distribution.

Android 4.4.3 is widely expected to simply be a maintenance release that will address a number of open issues. Among those should be a fix for the mm-qcamera-daemon crash that can play havok with the battery life on the Nexus 5.

To check manually if an update is ready for your Nexus 5, you can trigger it via Settings > About Phone > System Updates.

Drop us a note if your Google Nexus 5 (or other Nexus device) receives Android 4.4.3 today.
