BlackBerry Z20 to replace Z10 before end of year?

Rumoured BlackBerry Z20 memoBlackBerry has already announced that two new BlackBerry smartphones, the BlackBerry Passport and the BlackBerry Classic, will launch before the end of the year. A leaked memo from TELUS to its dealers now suggests that a third device could also be on its way. Anyone who remembers that BlackBerry promised an LTE variant of the BlackBerry Z3 back in February would likely point to that device being the third but the memo instead identifies it as the BlackBerry Z20.

The memo reveals nothing about the BlackBerry Z20 at this point except to say that it will replace the Z10. In an unsurprising turn of events, the same memo adds that BlackBerry has stopped production of the BlackBerry Z10 (along with the Q10).

While the BlackBerry Z20 could be an entirely new device, it is more likely to be the recently spotted device codenamed Manitoba. It was identified as the LTE variant of the Z3. With upgraded specifications such as LTE connectivity, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor and 2GB of RAM over the original Z3, it may well be that BlackBerry decided to go with a new model number.

Should the BlackBerry Z20 be none other than the BlackBerry Z3 LTE, we can expect it to launch before the end of the year for under US$400 without contract.
