HTC One Wear smartwatch to launch in late August?

HTCHTC hinted as far back as last October that it was looking to once more branch out beyond smartphones. It hinted at a future smartwatch but not until it met “a need, otherwise if it’s just a gimmick or concept.” Jump forward a few months to Mobile World Congress and HTC reportedly showed off behind closed doors a new device based on the Qualcomm Toq and a smartwatch that would come with an AMOLED display. More recently HTC was named as one of Google’s partners for Android Wear (alongside ASUS, LG, Motorola and Samsung as well as chip makers Broadcom, Imagination, Intel, Mediatek and Qualcomm and fashion brands like the Fossil Group), the new Android extension for wearables. Now comes word via TK Tech News that HTC will unveil its first smartwatch as early as the end of summer.

The already announced Moto 360 and LG G Watch could soon be joined by the HTC One Wear. The report adds that it will sport a round design like the former. It will be available in both “polycarbonate and metal flavors.” There is little else to go on at this point but it will presumably run Android Wear.

The HTC One Wear could be announced alongside the also rumoured HTC M8 Plus and HTC M8 Advance at an event later this summer as HTC looks to get its next generation of devices out before Apple.
