LG G FLex 2 coming before end of year?

LG G FlexThe end of 2013 saw the launch of the first smartphones with flexible displays. Both Samsung and LG unveiled new devices with curved displays. The LG G Flex (seen above) sported some unique features like the ability to flex and the ability to self-heal small scratches on its back cover. Neither device was a huge seller (price and availability played a big role in that) but gave us a taste of what the future could look like. It now appears that LG is readying a successor to the LG G Flex. The aptly named LG G Flex 2 could be out by the end of the year.

According to a Gizbot source, apparently a “high-profile executive” at the company, the LG G Flex 2 will be more “compact” than its predecessor. Few details are available at this point. The display is described as “better than Full HD” display but it remains to be seen if it will hit a WQHD resolution or come in at somewhat less. In comparison, the LG G Flex came with a 6-inch HD (720×1280) curved display.

The LG G Flex 2 is expected to first launch in South Korea. Availability will then be expanded to markets like the U.S. (suggesting we could see it here in Canada like the LG G Flex) and India.

LG earlier this year promised that it will bring the LG G Flex 2 to market this year. This rumour suggests that plans are still moving along in that direction. Whether Samsung follows suit or not remains unclear at this point.
