LG G3 to launch in gold colour?

Rumoured LG G3 retail box

The LG G3 rumours continue to gather steam. Following yesterday’s report that LG was looking to announce its next flagship smartphone in late June and launch it in early July, The Verge has obtained an image of the retail box of the device. While not quite as exciting as a picture of the device itself, it does reveal a few important details.

The box does confirm that the device will launch as the LG G3. It also reveals that LG is planning to launch a golden variant, a growing trend in the flagship smartphone space. LG already offered a golden variant of the LG G2 as do many of its competitors, including Apple and HTC, so the move is hardly surprising.

The report also adds that the LG G3 was codenamed B2 during development, something we reported back in early March. Giving further credence to that B2 codename is that internal staff training event invitation that surfaced back in mid-March. It also suggested a late June announcement.

Perhaps more interesting though is that LG confirmed to The Verge that its next flagship smartphone will come with a WQHD (2560×1440) display. Given the number of leaks and rumours suggesting this, maybe LG decided to confirm the obvious.

A separate source has indicated that the recently leaked LG isai FL which is headed to Japan via KDDI shares much in terms of looks with the upcoming LG G3. Known as the LGL24, it is reportedly the replacement for the LGL22 which itself was a variant of the LG G2. Here is that picture of the LGL24:

Aside from the very narrow bezels, the LG isai FL also sports the rear buttons that LG introduced with the LG G2.
