Microsoft unveils new Microsoft Lumia branding

Microsoft Lumia branding

Microsoft yesterday made official what we already knew: That the company is going ahead with a transition from Nokia Lumia to Microsoft Lumia for future Windows Phone devices. Microsoft also revealed how the new branding will look on upcoming devices with a couple of images.

According to Tuula Rytilä, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Phones at Microsoft:

Microsoft was founded with the vision of putting a computer in every home and on every desk. With Lumia phones, Microsoft delivers the power of everyday mobile technology to everyone. We’ve introduced innovations such as advanced camera features, wireless charging, industry-leading design – and have worked to bring across our portfolio. All of that will continue. Microsoft remains committed to bringing amazing Lumia experiences with a strong portfolio of phones that offer something for everyone.

Plus, Lumia is now part of a compelling family of Microsoft products like Xbox, Windows and Surface along with a range of services such as Skype, Office and Bing.

The fact that the Surface name appears in the same phrase as the Lumia one in the quote above suggests that Microsoft has no immediate plans to retire it. Perhaps that will change with the next tablet it unveils.

Microsoft Lumia brandingWhile current devices such as the recently announced Lumia 830 will retain their Nokia branding, future Lumia devices will adopt the new brand. As to when this will happen, Rytilä did not provide specific timelines but indicated that “we are looking forward to unveiling a Microsoft Lumia device soon.”

Needless to say, Microsoft will continue to support the Nokia Lumia phones that are out in the market.
