Nokia halts Lumia 2520 sales in some European countries over faulty charger

Nokia today announced that it was suspending sales of its Lumia 2520 tablet due to a defective charger. The temporary stop to sales affects Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Russia, Switzerland and the UK. It also extends to the Lumia 2520 travel charger accessory sold in those countries as well as the U.S. Nokia also advised that anyone who purchased the tablet or travel accessory in those countries stop using the charger immediately.

Nokia reports that the charger’s plastic cover can fall off exposing internal components that could cause an electric shock if touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket.

“While there have been no confirmed consumer incidents related to this potential quality issue, product quality and safety are top priorities at Nokia,” said Jo Harlow, EVP Smart Devices. “We apologize to the owners of the Lumia 2520, and we are working with urgency to minimize the inconvenience.”

Nokia is working with its suppliers to put in place a replacement program. No timelines are yet available and worse, Nokia does not have any suggestions to offer Lumia 2520 owners on how to recharge their tablets without using the charger:

Without my charger, how do I charge my device?
We apologize to the owners of the Lumia 2520, and we are working with urgency to minimize the inconvenience.

The Nokia Lumia 2520 is not affected by this issue.

Nokia announced the Lumia 2520, its first Windows RT tablet, back in October 2013.
