OnePlus formally announces OnePlus One

OnePlus One

As expected, OnePlus formally unveiled its OnePlus One smartphone earlier today. Billed as the “2014 flagship killer,” it promises to be an impressive device. It blends some very impressive specifications with a very attractive price. If the build quality matches up, the OnePlus One could well end up being among the best smartphones of 2014 (and we have yet to see the flagship devices of the second half of the year).

It also comes with three capacitive buttons that can be turned off in favour of on-screen buttons. OnePlus leaves “the choice with you.”

OnePlus has already announced that it will ship the OnePlus One to 16 countries, with Canada among them. The 16GB model will sell for US$299 while the 64GB model will sell for US$349.

OnePlus One

Before you rush off to try to get your hands on one, you should know that you will need an invitation to buy one. OnePlus will make these available in different ways, including contests and promotions (such as the upcoming “Smash The Past” one) and through their forums. People who have bought a OnePlus One will also be able to invite others to do so as well. As production ramps up, we expect that it will become easier to buy one as well.
