Sony unveils Xperia T2 Ultra phablet for emerging markets

Interest in smartphones with larger screens is not limited to more mature markets. Manufacturers are now starting to bring phablets to emerging markets and Sony is no exception. It today unveiled the Xperia T2 Ultra, a mid-range device aimed specifically at such markets.

“Xperia T2 Ultra will lead the category through its combination of advanced display and camera technologies, it will bring large-screen entertainment in an amazingly portable form factor and it will do it all whilst providing incredible value for money,” said Calum MacDougall, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications. “Its large HD display will deliver big screen entertainment on the go whilst the efficiency of the design will allow it to remain the worlds most portable large screen smartphone.”

Sony will also offer a dual-SIM version of the Xperia T2 Ultra. Both SIMs can operate simultaneously with one-touch switching making it easy to switch back and forth. On the downside, the Xperia T2 Ultra Dual will not support LTE.

The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia T2 Ultra Dual will be available in China, the Middle East, Africa and other countries in the Asia Pacific region. Specific availability and pricing details were not revealed today.
