Sony Xperia Z3 specifications revealed?

Rumoured Sony Speria Z3The Sony Xperia Z2 was only announced at Mobile World Congress 2014 but it already looks set to make way for a new flagship smartphone for the second half of the year. This would certainly fit with rumours earlier this year that Sony was looking to launch two flagship smartphones per year. Details are now emerging about the device likely to launch as the Xperia Z3 (also known as the Sony D6653).

According to the usually reliable @evleaks, we can expect the following specifications for the Xperia Z3:

  • Processor: 2.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801
  • Operating system: Google Android 4.4.4 KitKat
  • Display: 5.15-inch Full HD (1080×1920)
  • RAM: 3GB
  • Internal storage: 16GB
  • Rear-facing camera: 20.7MP with Sony Exmor RS sensor with 4K video capture
  • Front-facing camera: 2.1MP

All in all, it does not appear to be a significant upgrade over the Xperia Z2. The key change appears to be a slightly faster processor. The display is listed as a 5.15-inch Full HD display, slightly smaller than the 5.2-inch one on the Xperia Z2 unless a rounding adjustment brings the two on par.

Recent leaked images such as the one above suggest that it may look very similar to the Xperia Z2 despite earlier rumours that Sony may move away from its current OmniBalance design philosophy and adopt one that would use a metal frame with a PVD coating for improved impact and corrosion resistance.

Sony could unveil the Xperia Z3 at IFA 2014 much as it unveiled the Xperia Z1 there last year.
