Apple late today announced its FY 2015 Q1 financial results and the numbers were staggering: Record quarterly revenue of US$74.6 billion and record quarterly net profit of US$18 billion along with 74.5 million iPhones sold to set a new record). And that was just the start. Apple CEO Tim Cook revealed on the conference call that followed that the Apple Watch will begin to ship in April. “Development for Apple Watch is right on schedule, and we expect to begin shipping in April,” said Cook

“We’d like to thank our customers for an incredible quarter, which saw demand for Apple products soar to an all-time high,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s CEO. “Our revenue grew 30 percent over last year to $74.6 billion, and the execution by our teams to achieve these results was simply phenomenal.”

Rumours to date had predominantly pointed to a launch in March. It appears that Apple is willing to push the release out to some degree to ensure that it gets the launch right. It’s certainly makes sense considering how high expectations were running even before Cook today added, “My expectations are very high on it. Using it every day, love it and can’t live without it.”

The Apple Watch will start at US$349 for the base model. It will also offer the Apple Watch Sport geared at more active consumers and a premium version, the Apple Watch Edition. Pricing for the latter two has not been announced yet.
