Only 22% of U.S. Apple Watch pre-orders have shipped to date

Apple WatchAs expected, Apple last week began to ship Apple Watch pre-orders and more than one customer got them by Friday. It now appears that there are more customers still waiting than ones with a new Apple Watch strapped to their wrists. According to its e-receipt data, Slice Intelligence reports that only about 22% of U.S. pre-orders have been delivered so far.

Slice reported about two weeks ago that nearly one million Apple Watches had been ordered in the U.S. in the first 24 hours of the pre-order window. That number has since then climbed to 1.7 million units. Slice’s data suggests that Apple has so far shipped 376,000 orders or about 22% of all U.S. pre-orders.

Slice expects that another 547,000 watches will ship sometime between April 27th and June 11th. That still leaves more than 650,000 Apple Watches without a specific shipping date yet. With the Apple website still showing June shipping dates for most Apple Watches today, it appear that the company will be able to catch up on its backlog of orders sometime that month.

Effectively confirming that demand has so far outstripped supply, Apple is so far not offering the Apple Watch at Apple Stores. Should you stroll in, you will have to make a reservation to see the watch in person. If you decide to buy one, you’ll then need need to place your order through the store or through the Apple website.
