New Apple Watch bands and partnerships coming in March

Apple WatchA new report cast further doubt on the likelihood that Apple would unveil a second generation version of its Apple Watch in March. 9to5Mac reports that the next Apple Watch event is “unlikely” to include any new hardware functionality. The company is instead, much as it did last September, likely to announce new watch accessories and partnerships.

The new accessories could include Apple Watch bands in new colours and new materials. On the partnership side, Apple could announce new co-branded watches similar to the Apple Watch Hermès which is now available online as well as in Apple Stores.

Apple could also announce watchOS 2.2 which is already in the hands of developers in beta at its March event. Among other things, it could offer new mapping functionality and allow multiple Apple Watches to sync to a single iPhone.

Early signs point to Apple’s March event taking place sometime during the week of the 14th. The date may depend on other products, possibly including a new 4-inch Apple iPhone, to be ready as well.

Older rumours had hinted that Apple could unveil its second generation Apple Watch in March. It now appears that it will do so instead in September, likely alongside new iPhones. New features could include a video camera to the top bezel to enable FaceTime calls and improved Wi-Fi capabilities to reduce dependence on a paired smartphone.
