New Fossil smartwatches and smarter watches to be unveiled during Baselworld 2016

Fossil Q Wander and Q MarshallFossil announced the Fossil Q Motion activity tracker just days ago and brought it to SXSW 2016. It today announced it will unveil new wearables at its 2016 Fossil Global Exposition taking place in Basel at the same time as Baselworld 2016. It plans to announce two new Android Wear-powered Fossil smartwatches and a new a smarter analog watch.

“We love the digital influence on our world today! It opens up a more direct dialogue with our customers, allowing us to design products and update technology in a much more impactful way,” said Jill Elliott, chief creative officer. “Customers want to be connected to the world around them, and are eager to access information about daily activities, filtered content and their social networks. The expanded Fossil Q line brings creativity, curiosity and connectivity through smarter watches and trackers that enhance their personal style.”

The Fossil Q Wander (pictured above on the left) and Fossil Q Marshal (pictured above on the right) promise slimmer designs for the new Android Wear smartwatches. In response to customer feedback both will be available in both 44mm an 46mm case sizes with a silicone strap option. Both will also support wireless charging.

The Fossil Q Wander promises a “soft-curving, multi-finish case with artfully sculpted wire lugs” and interchangeable genuine leather straps. The Fossil Q Marshal will come with a rugged case paired with vintage-inspired leather straps. One model of the Q Marshal will feature a navy blue plated case.

Powered by Android Wear, both new Fossil smartwatches will come with always-on displays and all of the functionality expected from Google’s wearable platform.

Less is known about the new Fossil smarter analog watches. Billed as the “ultimate convergence of fashion and technology,” they promise alerts and notifications using the turn of the watch hands and the usual activity and fitness tracking (including steps, calories, sleep) as well as automatic time zone updates and a second time zone in a sub-dial. Four different models are promised but there are no specifics about these.

Fossil’s new Q wearables will launch between early summer and fall 2016. The new smartwatches will sell for about US$275 (about CA$370).

Look for other Fossil Group brands to make similar announcements and showcase their wearables during the 2016 Fossil Global Exposition. Misfit has already confirmed its presence and other brands expected include Skagen and Michael Kors.
