New smartwatches coming with next ASUS and Lenovo press events?

Asus Zenvolution 2016Both ASUS and Lenovo have announced upcoming press events. First up will be ASUS’ Zenvolution 3 which kicks off on May 30th as part of Computex 2016 with a livestreamed keynote. Lenovo will follow that up with its second annual Lenovo TechWorld event on June 9th which will also feature a livestreamed keynote event. Could one or both events feature new smartwatches? Neither company has yet hinted at such an announcement but it should not be ruled out.

The ASUS Zenvolution 3 event is likely to focus on the next generation Zenfone to replace the well-received Zenfone 2. But cast your mind back a year and you might remember that ASUS first announced the ZenWatch 2 at Computex 2015. It could well unveil its successor at this year’s event.

Lenovo TechWorld 2016

As for Lenovo, its TechWorld event promises to feature the launch of the world’s first consumer Project Tango-enabled smartphone. It also promises a “new mobile technology designed by Motorola that will dramatically change the way people think about and use their most personal devices – in a snap.”

Less likely is a third generation Moto 360 announcement if only because it’s less than a year since the company unveiled its second generation models. Perhaps instead we’ll get a glimpse at some new smartwatch technology concepts that Lenovo is working on.

Our hopes for new smartwatches from ASUS and Lenovo are also dampened by the fact that the rumour mills have been quiet on both fronts. The second generation Moto 360 especially was the topic of rumours prior to its announcement but it has been quiet so far on that front.

Computex 2016 runs from May 31st to June 4th in Taipei, China. Lenovo TechWorld 2016 will follow on June 9th in San Francisco.
