Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2 smartwatches announced

Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2After teasing us yesterday that it would make an announcement today, Pebble just unveiled two new smartwatches. The Pebble 2 and Pebble Time 2 will succeed the original Pebble and original Time smartwatches respectively. And Pebble is once more returning to Kickstarter to launch its latest generation smartwatches.

In 2012, you put smartwatches on the map during the original Pebble project, raising over $10M on Kickstarter. In 2015, you made crowdfunding history again with Pebble Time, supporting our second campaign for over $20M. They say “good things come in threes,” and “everything’s better with friends,” so we’re inviting you to join us for our latest adventure.

Let’s make wearables great again ?

While there are a number of improvements and changes, the biggest change is probably the addition to both smartwatches of a heart rate monitor for better health and fitness tracking. Both will once again use e-paper displays that will allow them to offer multi-day battery use.

The Pebble 2 sports a black and white display, this time with a Corning Gorilla Glass coating instead of a plastic one. It is also both thinner and lighter than the original. It will be available in five different colours: Flame, Aqua, Black, White and Lime.

The Pebble Time 2 will replace both the Pebble Time and Pebble Time Steel. Along with a steel case, it will come with a colour e-paper display that is 53% larger thanks in large part to its much thinner bezel. It will be available in Black, Gold and Silver.

Both watches also come with a built-in microphone, built-in activity and sleep tracking and water resistance to 30 metres (3 ATM). The Pebble 2 will last up to 7 days on a single charge while the Pebble Time 2 could last as long as 10 days.

The Pebble 2 sells for US$99 (about CA$130) with shipments set to begin in September. The Pebble Time 2 can be yours for US$169 (about CA$220) and will follow in November.
