Samsung today announced a new accessory for its Samsung Gear S2 smartwatch. The Gear S2 Band Adapter will give consumers greater flexibility in customizing their smartwatch. It makes it compatible with standard 20mm watch straps, including the Gear S2 classic strap, opening up a much wider range of options, including leather, metal and ceramic straps.
The Gear S2 Band Adapter is made of lightweight stainless steel and is available in both dark grey and silver.
After you have removed the original Gear S2 rubber band, you can attach the adapter to the case. Then it’s simply a matter of choosing your new strap and attaching to your smartwatch using the adapter.
The Samsung Gear S2 Band Adapter is now on sale for about €25 (about US$30 or CA$35) in Germany, Singapore and South Africa. Samsung is working on expanding availability and promises it will be more broadly available “soon.” There is no word on exactly when it will hit North American shores.
