Samsung Solis smartwatch in development?

Samsung Gear S2 and S2 ClassicSamsung introduced its first round smartwatch, the Samsung Gear S2 (pictured above), last September. Rumours about a successor followed a mere three months later, suggesting that it would use a wearables-optimized processor. More recent rumours added that a Samsung Gear S3 smartwatch will be announced at IFA 2016 in September. A new report today indicates that Samsung is indeed working on a new smartwatch. It is apparently codenamed Solis.

Given that Solis means sun in Latin, it appears likely that the new smartwatch will feature a round dial like the Gear S2. A number of different models are apparently in the works. These include the SM-R760, SM-R765, SM-R770, SM-R765V, and SM-R765S with the last two possibly being carrier variants.

There are few details about specifications but the Samsung Solis will run Samsung’s own Tizen operating system. Enhancements should include an updated user interface. The rotating bezel introduced with the Gear S2 is also likely to make a return. The report does not indicate whether it will use the new Samsung bio-processor as rumoured last year.

Samsung Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO

The US$15,000 Samsung Gear S2 by de GRISOGONO has apparently been selling well enough that Samsung is expected to continue its collaboration with Swiss luxury jeweler de Grisogono. The two are expected to unveil a high-end luxury limited edition version of the Samsung Solis at next year’s Baselworld 2017.
