Xiaomi Mi Smartwatch to launch in second half of 2016

XiaomiRumours that Xiaomi was working on a smartwatch have been around for more than a year now. They resurface regularly with the latest ones suggesting that it would launch in the next couple of months. A new report now reveals that none other than company co-founder and vice president Liu De has now confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi smartwatch is indeed real and coming soon.

Speaking at a conference in Beijing earlier this week, Liu announced that the wearable would launch sometime in the second half of the year. He revealed little else about the smartwatch itself or the launch plans. Based on comments from Huang Wang, the CEO of its manufacturing partner Huami, it will come with a larger display than the Mi Bands and will emphasize one particular but unspecified function (likely health and fitness like so many other smartwatches already available).

Before it launches its new smartwatch, Xiaomi is expected to unveil the Mi Band 2 at a launch event on June 10th where it will also announce the Xiaomi Mi Max and the latest version of its MIUI mobile operating system.
