Bluetooth SIG adopts new version 2.1 + EDR

Bluetooth

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced that the latest version of its Bluetooth specification has been approved.

Version 2.1 + EDR features enhancements such as an improved pairing process that provides a consistent and intuitive pairing solution that includes finding devices, securing the link and authenticating the devices, a Secure Simple Pairing that provides maximum encryption strength without any user interaction. Once devices are paired, encryption is permanently enabled so none of the user’s data is sent “in the clear”.

The first Bluetooth v2.1+ EDR products are expected by the end of the year given that chipsets are already available from vendors such as Broadcom, CSR, Infineon and Texas Instruments.
