T-Mobile has announced a press event for September 23rd where it will unveil the first Android-powered phone from T-Mobile. The press event will take place in New York City and attendees will be able to experience the HTC Dream firsthand. Since The Wall Street Journal story was published early today, T-Mobile has issued press invitations for the event.

According to Wall Street Journal sources, HTC expects to sell between 600,000 and 700,00 HTC Dreams this year alone, handily exceeding analyst estimates of sales up to 500,000 units.

If leaked details about the HTC Dream are true, we can expect to see a device with a slide-out touchscreen display (5- by 3-inches) with a QWERTY keyboard underneath (similar to the Sidekick form factor). It will come with 3G connectivity, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and a 3MP camera.
