Lenovo to exit mobile device market

Did you know that Lenovo sold mobile handsets? Neither did I. After seeing its shipments fall 31 percent in compared to the same quarter a year ago and recording a loss of 134 million yuan in 2007, Lenovo has decided to sell its mobile division to a private-equity group for USD$100 million. The deal is expected to close this quarter.

Lenovo sells its Windows Mobile PDAs and smartphones primarily in mainland China, explaining why this side of its business is not better known across the world.
