Samsung today announced that it will soon extend compatibility of its Galaxy Gear smartwatch to additional Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S4, Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II will all be made compatible with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update. The Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Mega 5.8, Galaxy Mega 6.3, and Galaxy S4 zoom will also be made compatible through a separate software update.

“Extending Galaxy Gear compatibility to more Galaxy devices reflects our deep commitment to continuing to deliver enriched mobile experiences to our consumers,” said JK Shin, CEO and President of IT & Mobile division, Samsung Electronics. “Through a significant effort to enhance and enrich the Galaxy experience, Samsung continues to empower our users in their mobile lives and enable smart freedom with Galaxy Gear.”

The update will enable the same capabilities as the Galaxy Note 3 already has.  Users will be able to make and answer calls as well as view incoming messages and notifications at a glance. The Smart Relay feature will also open full content of an item on a master device.

As always, update schedules depend on country and carrier. The Galaxy S4 Android 4.3 upgrade rollout will kick off in Germany later this month and we’ll let you know when it hits Canada.
