Mobilicity promises “biggest one day offer” for Black Friday (Updated)

Mobilicity Black Friday, once firmly a U.S. only tradition, is quickly becoming a Canadian shopping tradition as well. Canadian carriers got into the spirit of things last year. Among them was Mobilicity which last year promised “crazy” deals. This year, CEO Anthony Booth, is promising the “biggest one day offer in history of the company, and Canadian wireless.”

There are no details on exactly what Mobilicity’s Black Friday sale will entail but it could well entail some deep discounts on some somewhat older devices. In fact, a look at the company’s website reveals that it is already running a sale. For example, the Moto E can be yours for CA$149.99 while last year’s Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is selling for CA$649.99. It remains to be seen just how much better the Black Friday sale will be.

Mobilicity continues to operate under creditor protection. Its seventh extension runs out on December 1 and it remains to be seen if it will ask for an eighth one as it continues to try to find a buyer. In fact, it may have found one.

The Catalyst Capital Group Inc. is reportedly willing to “finance Mobilicity’s bid for additional wireless airwaves” in order to prepare it for a future merger with another Canadian carrier. Speaking about the upcoming 2015 AWS-3 spectrum auction, Catalyst’s Newton Glassman said, “If Mobilicity does not participate in that auction, both the value of existing or pre-existing spectrum, and its position in any negotiation goes down.”

Could Mobilicity’s biggest Black Friday surprise be that it has found a buyer?
