The GSMA, the group that puts on the Mobile World Congress, has used the event in the past to hand out its Annual Global Mobile awards. This year was no exception as winners in a wide range of categories were announced on Wednesday. HTC, struggling to turn its fortunes around and set to announce a new flagship smartphone on March 25, got some good news when its current flagship smartphone, the HTC One, won the ‘Best Smartphone’ Global Mobile Award.

Peter Chou, CEO of HTC accepted the award commenting, “We’re incredibly proud that the HTC One continues to be recognised as a game-changing smartphone, with its sleek design, superior audio and impressive functionality. Winning yet another international award for the HTC One proves that the device has taken the mobile experience to a new level and continues to set HTC apart from the competition. We’re looking forward to building on this success with more incredible innovation planned for the coming months.”

The HTC One had already won the Global Mobile Award for ‘Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet’ at MWC 2013.

Other notable winners include the following:

  • Nokia Lumia 520 for ‘Best Low-Cost Smartphone (sub-$150 wholesale price)’
  • Apple iPad Air for ‘Best Mobile Tablet’
  • LG for ‘Most Innovative Device Manufacturer of the Year’

Congratulations to HTC, LG, Nokia, Apple and all the other winners.
