What is the mysterious Google Nexus Foo?

Geekbench benchmark for Google Nexus FooThe Nexus program may have been on its last legs earlier this year but it appears to have made quite the recovery. Persistent rumours of an upcoming Google Nexus 9 tablet have been joined by those of a new Nexus 6 phablet codenamed Shamu designed by Motorola recently. And now we can throw the Google Nexus Foo into the mix as well. We’ve spotted the mysterious device on the GFXBench website.

At first glance the Google Nexus Foo appears to be a larger tablet than the Nexus 9. But some details throw that into question and suggest something else entirely. Here is what GFXBench tells us about the Google Nexus Foo:

  • Processor: 1.9GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4
  • Operating system: Google Android 4.4 KitKat (KKWT)
  • Other connectivity: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
  • Display: 10.3-inch Full HD (1080×1920), no touchscreen
  • RAM: 2GB
  • Internal storage: 16GB (13GB free)
  • Rear-facing camera: None
  • Front-facing camera: None

So, what is so strange about those specifications? First and foremost, despite the large 10.3-inch display, it looks to be running the Android Wear extension of Android. There’s no way you’ll strap this one to your wrist. Second is the fact that the display does not support touch. And then there is the lack of front and rear cameras. While this may not have been unusual on early tablets, it certainly stands out today.

So, if the Google Nexus Foo is not a tablet, what is it? Could it be an accessory rather than a standalone device? Could it be the Google Nexus Q reincarnated? Chime in below with your guess as to what the Google Nexus Foo is.

  1. A larger “tablet”? GFX labels the device as having “no touchscreen”. Can’t be a tablet with no touchscreen.
