Rogers to share GLENTEL ownership with Bell

WirelessWaveRogers Communications announced on Christmas eve that it has reached an agreement with BCE over the latter’s proposed acquisition of GLENTEL, a Canadian mobile products distributor. The move comes just days after Rogers filed an injunction to block the sale of GLENTEL to BCE, Bell Mobility’s parent company. The agreement will see Rogers “jointly own” GLENTEL’s Canadian retail distribution outlets with BCE.

This agreement means that customers across the country will continue to be able to choose a wide variety of wireless products and services at GLENTEL’s 494 retail locations across Canada, such as WIRELESSWAVE, Tbooth wireless, WIRELESS etc., Target Mobile, and more.

Rogers also announced that it will withdraw its court application for an injunction against the acquisition.

The resolution of the GLENTEL ownership issue means that Bell Mobility and Rogers Wireless mobile products and services will continue to be offered alongside one another. It remains to be seen if other carriers will also see their products continue to appear in GLENTEL’s retail stores.

GLENTEL operates chains such as WIRELESSWAVE and Tbooth wireless and offers retail management services for Costco Canada, Samsung Canada, and Target Canada.

The BCE GLENTEL acquisition is expected to close in Q1 2015, pending the usual closing conditions, including court, shareholder and competition approvals.. The deal is worth CA$670 million.
