Sailfish OS 2.0 Jolla Tablet hits crowdfunding target in 2 hours

Jolla TabletFinnish smartphone manufacturer Jolla is moving into the tablet space. The company today launched a crowdfunding campaign via Indiegogo to raise US$380,000 to build the Jolla Tablet. It met its goal within two hours.

We have reached our goal in a little over 2 hours – the #JollaTablet is happening! Our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who have contributed.

The first two batches of Jolla Tablets are sold out, and we have introduced the next batch of 2000.

The Jolla Tablet will be powered by Sailfish OS 2.0, the next major version of the open-source operating system based on Linux that already powers the Jolla smartphone. It is not only able to run native apps but also Android apps available through third party app stores such as the Jolla Store and Amazon App Store. One feature that should benefit from the increased screen real estate is its ability to show all running apps on a single view.

Contributors will also have a chance to weigh in on the features they want to see in Sailfish 2.0. Community voting will help decide which features will be prioritized for development.
