Samsung back to poking fun at Apple with “Wall Huggers” ad

Samsung "Wall Huggers" adSamsung famously ran a series of ads that poked fun at Apple customers waiting in line for the next iPhone a few years back. The ad series eventually ran its course and Samsung shifted to other themes for its ads but Apple remains a favourite target. Its latest ad for the Samsung Galaxy S5 takes it back to familiar grounds. This time, the South Korean company is taking aim at battery life with the ad, called “Wall Huggers,” showing how Apple users deal with dying batteries and how Samsung Galaxy S5 have it better thanks to its Ultra Power Saving Mode and replaceable batteries.

That moment when your phone conveniently chooses the most inconvenient time to run low on juice. Switch your Galaxy S 5 to Ultra Power Saving Mode or swap in a fresh spare battery and say goodbye to the wall huggers for good.

The ad shows iPhone users glued to power outlets as they recharge their phones in the most inconvenient spots, including sitting on stained carpets and in washrooms. As the announcer says, “You’re stuck here until your battery says so.” In contrast, Samsung Galaxy S5 (obviously) have it pretty good.

There is even a moment where one iPhone user says to another that a new model is coming out soon. Another person nearby replies that they “hope it has a better battery.”

The ad concludes by telling you “Don’t be a wall hugger.”
