Samsung SM-A500 specifications revealed?

Samsung NameThere are growing signs that Samsung is getting ready to launch a new line of devices. The first model in the new A series of smartphones will be the SM-A500 which is likely none other than the SM-A5000 recently spotted on the GFXBench website. New information has now come to light courtesy of SamMobile.

Unlike the just announced Samsung Galaxy Alpha which comes with a metal frame but retains some plastic body parts, the SM-A500 will come with a full metal body. As a result, it will not sport the almost traditional faux-leather back plate. This new form factor will give the device a more premium finish than comparable devices with the same mid-range specifications.

Speaking of specifications, the SM-A500 will come with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 5-inch HD (1280×720) Super AMOLED display, 16GB of internal storage, a microSD card slot, an 8MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera and a 2,330mAh battery. Unlike the recent Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4, it will not come with fingerprint and heart rate sensors nor will it be dust and water-resistant.

These specifications differ somewhat from those we saw earlier for the SM-A5000. It may well be that Samsung is still finalizing specifications or that there will be additional devices in the SM-A500x family at launch time.

If Samsung is pushing a more premium finish like metal down to its mid-range line, it may well be that next year’s Samsung Galaxy S6 could also ditch its plastic coat in favour of metal.
