Regional wireless carrier Videotron yesterday announced that it had just signed its 500,000th customer. A wholly owned subsidiary of Quebecor Media, Videotron launched three years ago and has since proven to be a formidable force in the Quebec market.

“For three years, Videotron has been pushing the envelope in order to offer its customers more and provide them with the best possible experience,” said Manon Brouillette, President and Chief Operating Officer of Videotron. “Our powerful mobile network makes it possible for 500,000 residential and business customers to enjoy a state-of-the-art product that has yet to reach its full potential. The future is bright for our mobile services: our teams are bursting with ideas and innovative projects.”

Videotron also announced plans to roll out a shared LTE network in Quebec and the Ottawa region with Rogers Communications. It will expand Videotron’s network coverage as well as offer faster speeds.

Videotron’s plans are even more far-reaching. After having spent CA$$554.4 million in the 2008 AWS spectrum auction, it is among the bidders in the 700MHz auction currently taking place, likely with a focus on the Quebec region and surrounding area. It also reportedly made a bid to acquire Mobilicity for CA$200 million.
