Baselworld 2015: Vector Luna & Meridian smartwatches unveiled

Vector Luna and MeridianAs promised, Vector Watch today unveiled its first smartwatches. It announced the Vector Luna and Vector Meridian at an event not far from where Baselworld is taking place.

Each day new developments offer opportunities that make the world not only more interesting, but increasingly complicated as well. Surrounded by things that fight for our attention, we are constantly challenged to spend time on things we do not care about. Our purpose is to simplify life through technology and design.

Combining software and hardware development with traditional watch design and behavioural insights, we are creating elegant and intelligent watches that intuitively integrate with your personal life. Desirable pieces of jewellery that give you time and aim to offer the right information, at the right moment, in the right way. Grounded in the past and with the right balance of technology to earn a genuine place in our everyday lives, Vector watches feel familiar, yet progressive, and can be confidently used to streamline daily activities and tasks so you can focus on what truly matters.

We do not believe the smartwatch should replace the smartphone. Quite the opposite. In the long run, it should bring all information that does not need a big screen to your wrist, in order to save you time, minimize distraction and help you truly live in the present. Information you can consume at a glance that you will get when you expect it and in a way that is convenient for you.

Vector built its own operating system and paired with a monochrome display to be able to achieve battery life of up to 30 days. At the same time, the display is always on, “doing what a watch should do – giving you the time and information you need at a glance.”

Much like other smartwatches, the Vector smartwatches can deliver a range of notifications and act as activity trackers, keeping track of steps taken, distance, calorie expenditure and sleeping patterns. It also offers traditional watch functionalities such as a chronograph, stop watch, countdown timer and multiple time zones, as well as multiple alarms.

Both the Vector Luna and Vector Meridian come with customisable analogue and digital monochrome watch faces, smart notifications, both an accelerometer and gyroscope and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. They are also water resistant to 50 meters and promise battery life of up to 30 days.

The round Vector Luna sports a 44mm stainless steel case with a depth of 11 mm. It is offered in either Brushed Gun Metal or Matte Black. The rectangular Meridian measures 40.5 by 35 mm with a case depth of 10.5 mm. It is only available in a Brushed Gun Metal finish.

The company has begun to take pre-orders. The Vector Meridian with a black nylon strap will sell for US$199 while the Vector Luna with either a black nylon or brown leather strap will sell for US$349.
