Lenovo shows off Magic View smartwatch again

Lenovo Magic View smartwatch conceptLenovo first showed off its Magic Watch smartwatch concept at its own Lenovo Tech World conference back in May. What makes this concept rather unique is the second display called the Virtual Interactive Display (VID) that fits over the band below the case. It can give the illusion of images twenty times larger than possible on a regular watch face when held up close to the eye.

The Lenovo Magic Watch made another appearance today at a Lenovo event in New York. The company also posted two new images of its concept smartwatch on Twitter. These focus unfortunately on the main display rather than the VID which is barely visible.

Lenovo Magic View smartwatch conceptThere is no word if Lenovo has made any updates to the hardware. The prototype showed off in May was powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with Adreno 306 GPU and a custom version of Android rather than Android Wear. The new images still show the “flat tire” black bar that is so often associated with the Moto 360.

Could the Lenovo Magic View make another appearance when Lenovo unveils the new Moto 360 on September 8th?

While the concept remains interesting, the Lenovo Magic View still seems to be an awkward solution to the problem of how to keep certain information private when displayed on a watch.
