Motorola unveils Moto X Play, Moto X Style and new Moto G

Moto X Style, Moto X and Moto G (2015)Motorola today held its “Your Relationship Status is About to Change” event and unveiled three new smartphones. Instead of one new generation Moto X, Motorola unveiled two new models, the Moto X Play and the Moto X Style. It also announced the third-generation Moto G, an inexpensive alternative to the Moto X.

Today we are announcing the next generations of our most popular phones — Moto G and Moto X — giving you the mobile relationship you never knew existed. The new phones feature best in class cameras, meaningful software experiences and personalization options – all at exceptional prices.

All three build on Motorola’s past smartphones by offering improved hardware while retaining an almost stock version of Android tweaked only with a few enhancements including an updated version of Moto Assist.

The Moto G will be the first new Moto to hit the street. It will be available in more than 60 countries throughout North America, Latin America, Europe and Asia Pacific starting today. In Canada, it is expected to be available on Friday, July 31st for about CA$200.

The Moto X Play will follow starting next month in various countries across Europe, Latin America, and Canada. It will not be offered in the U.S. but Motorola promises that “more choices” are coming later this year. Look for it to sell for about CA$400 in Canada.

The Moto X Style will launch starting in September in countries across Europe, Latin America and North America but not Canada (at this point). Details about availability in Asia, including China, are promised later this year.

In the U.S., the Moto X Style will launch as the Moto X Pure Edition. Promising “an end-to-end Moto experience,” it will be available directly from Motorola without clutter and bloatware and compatible with all major U.S. carriers.

While Motorola did announce that its Moto Maker customization service to Brazil this year, no such announcement was made for Canada. That means that we will continue to be deprived of the chance to create our very own Moto X or, new for 2015, Moto G.

And one more small bit of disappointing news: Despite our crossed fingers, Motorola did not announce a new Moto 360 smartwatch today.
