Vector smartwatch sales to kick off in September

Vector Luna and MeridianWhile much of the attention at Baselworld 2015 was focused on traditional watches, we also saw a number of smartwatch announcements. Among them was one by a new company called Vector. It unveiled its first two devices, the Vector Luna and Vector Meridian, powered by its own operating system.

Vector kicked off pre-orders at Baselworld for limited edition versions of both watches. The pre-order window is set to close later this month and orders will begin to ship in July. General sales will then begin in September.

While the Vector Luna and Vector Meridian look stylistically different (the former is round and the latter sports a square face), both use a monochrome always-on display that promises an impressive battery life of up to 30 days.

It remains to be seen how the new Vector Smartwatch models will vary from the current ones which are being offered as limited editions. Presumably we will see different finishes and strap options but it remains to be seen if we will see completely new models.

The Vector Meridian with a black nylon strap currently sells for US$199 (about CA$245) while the Vector Luna with either a black nylon or brown leather strap sells for US$349 (about CA$430).

Vector is a new company led by CEO Joe Santana who headed up the Timex Group between 1999 and 2007. He is joined by the company’s brainchild and Chief Technology Office Andrei Pitis and British product designer Steve Jarvis who has worked at both Timex and Nike.
