Casio G-Shock and the Rolex Submariner the most Googled watches

Rolex Oyster Perpetual SubmarinerGoogle searches are often a good indicator of what is popular. Based on research performed by online retailer Karus Chains (which does not sell watches but studies the search habits of online shoppers who use Google), two watches shared the top spot as the most popular watch Google searches for the last two years. The Casio G-Shock and the Rolex Submariner, both of which are in fact watch collections rather than single models, topped the list of most Googled watches with each generating about 2.95 million searches in both 2014 and 2015.

Karus Chains used a combination of Long Tail Pro software and Google’s Keyword Planner tool for its analysis. It looked at some 23,500 keyword search terms associated with over 50 of the most popular watch brands to come up with a compilation of average monthly search figures for a two-year period.

The top five watches based on Google Searches is completed by the Casio Edifice, Rolex Daytona and Omega Seamaster.

Watch Google searches in 2014 and 2015

Among the other findings of the study are:

  • Rolex is the most popular brand with 4 watches in the top 12.
  • The USA is the number 1 search market for 11 of the top 12 watches. The exception is the Casio Edifice where India is the number 1 search market.
  • The Seiko 5 is the only watch in the top 12 that has not seen any growth in search volume between 2014-2015.

Interestingly, none of the top 50 watches in the report saw a decline in searches when comparing 2014 and 2015.

The report deliberately excluded the Apple Watch from its analysis but does not explain if other smartwatches were included and simply did not make the top 50. In a previous report, Karus Chains found that the Apple Watch topped the list of most Googled watches with 60 million searches in 2015 compared to 18 million for Rolex!
