CES 2016: Fossil Q54 Pilot smartwatch

Fossil Q54 PilotFossil unveiled its line of Fossil Q wearables back in October. Among the new devices introduced was the Fossil Q Founder smartwatch and the Fossil Q Grant “smarter watch.” Today, the company introduced a new watch, the Fossil Q54 Pilot. Billed as a “smartwatch for analog watch lovers,” lacks a digital touchscreen display, opting instead for the connected approach we saw with the Q Grant.

The Fossil Q54 Pilot uses filtered LED color-coded or haptic feedback to alert you about a range of notifications from your favorite contacts, apps, or keywords. It also tracks a range of information including steps taken and calories burned, providing the data back to the Fossil Q companion smartphone app.

At least two models of the Fossil Q54 Pilot will be offered. One will feature an off-white dial with tan accents and markers while the other will come with a black dial with blue accents and markers.

“As a brand, we are really proud and excited about the initial response to Fossil Q wearables—to date it has exceeded our expectations. Given that, we are more committed than ever to bring our design expertise as watchmakers into the wearable technology space,” said Jill Elliott-Sones, chief creative officer at Fossil. “Today at CES, we are thrilled to show off the next generation of Fossil Q wearables and look forward to introducing CES to the playful and curious world of Fossil.”

The Fossil Q app itself has also been updated to include enhanced activity reporting, three new notification vibration patterns, profile photos, more third-party app support and additional language support.

Fossil also announced that it will add two new styles to the Q Dreamer collection. The Tortoiseshell (tortoise acetate and rich brown leather and gold-tone hardware) and Shimmer Horn (shimmer horn acetate and sand leather with rose gold-tone hardware) will both launch in late Spring. They will sell for US$145 (about CA$200).
