Razer, a company well known for its gaming accessories, unveiled a new wearable at CES 2016. Rather than a smartwatch, the Razer Nabu Watch is billed as “a digital chronograph with discreet notifications, fitness tracking and social functions.” Unlike most smartwatches, it does not need daily recharging and offers a range of watch functions on top of its connected ones.
The Razer Nabu Watch’s display is at first glance a throwback to the digital watches of the 1990s. Pixels are visible in all their glory. But a closer look reveals that there are in fact two different displays working together. The first, illuminiated and backlit, offers traditional chronograph features including the time, countdown timer, stopwatch, World time clocks and alarms.
The secondary Nabu display, a monochrome 128 by 16 pixel OLED, handles smartphone notifications, fitness updates (steps walked, distance traveled, calories burned and more) and watch-to-watch communication. The last lets two Nabu Watch users who shake hand to exchange Facebook and Twitter info easily. It also works with the Nabu and Nabu X. The Nabu display uses a separate rechargeable battery and lasts about seven days.
Five buttons, two on each side and one under the display, provide the necessary controls. The one below the Nabu display works like a switch and cycles through all of the Nabu messages.

The Razer Nabu Watch comes in two versions. They are identical hardware-size but the Razer Nabu Watch Forged Edition (pictured above) differs from the Standard Edition (pictured below) by adding stainless steel buttons for added durability and a premium black finish. Both are now available from RazerStore retail locations and at RazerStore.com. The Razer Nabu Watch sells for US$149.99 (about CA$215) and the Forged Edition for US$199.99 (about CA$285).
