Motorola President Rick Osterloh leaving Lenovo in leadership reorganization

Motorola - A Lenovo companyLenovo yesterday announced a sweeping organizational and leadership restructuring effort affecting several business units. As part of the reorganization, it announced that Motorola President Rick Osterloh is leaving Lenovo. The company thanked him for “his steady leadership since Lenovo’s acquisition” and wished him “continued success in the future.”

Recognizing that mobile markets in China and the rest of the world are very different, Xudong Chen and Aymar de Lencquesaing will take on leadership of the Lenovo Mobile Business Group as  co-presidents. Chen will focus on the China mobile business. de Lencquesaing will focus on major mature markets and will also head up the Motorola Mobility team as Chairman and President of Motorola. Both will report directly to Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing.

According to Yuanqing, “In the last year, Lenovo has delivered solid results, the fast integration of Motorola and System x businesses, and a series of innovative product launches across our portfolio.  Now we must further accelerate our transformation into a customer-centric company. The changes announced today will build on our successes, rapidly deliver this transformation and ultimately drive Lenovo into a new phase of growth.”

The PC Group will become the PC & Smart Device Business Group. It will be responsible not only for PCs but also detachables, tablets, phablets, gaming and smart home products across the Windows, Chrome and Android platforms.

Lenovo earlier this year announced plans to focus far less on the Motorola brand, promoting instead its Moto and Vibe (known as Le Meng in China) sub-brands for its smartphones.

There is no word yet on what is next in Rick Osterloh’s future.
