Adults may have to wait until the second half of the year to strap a Xiaomi Mi smartwatch to their wrist but children won’t have to wait so long. The Chinese company has unveiled the Xiaomi Mi Bunny MITU Children Smart GPS Watch. Much as we have seen with other smartwatches aimed at children, the primary aim of this wearable is to allow parents to know exactly where their children at all times.

You can easily find out the location of your child. If he arrives or leaves the setting area, you will receive a notification! Also the device supports voice calls — set 6 family numbers and communicate with your kids freely. Even if your child is not around, the family can interact with him through the App.
Made of plastic with a silicone strap, the Xiaomi Mi Bunny watch comes with a simple LED display capable of displaying the time and emojis as well as which of six pre-set numbers is calling. A speaker and microphone with audio amplifier allow the child to easily speak to the person calling without the need for any additional hardware.
Cellular connectivity is provided by a built-in SIM card but less clear is how this will work in different parts of the world. In China at least, it comes with a Mi phone card loaded initially with a 10 Yuan balance. While there are no monthly fees or incoming call and roaming charges, outgoing calls and GPS location messages will be billed and deducted from the card. The card can presumably be reloaded using the companion app that parents and caregivers can install on their smartphones.
An SOS button makes it easy for a child to reach their parents. When pressed, the watch records seven seconds of audio and the GPS location and sends it to the caregiver’s smartphone.
The Xiaomi Mi Bunny MITU Children Smart GPS Watch also comes with a pedometer and a 300 mAh battery that promises up to six days of standby time.
Available in both blue and pink, the Xiaomi Mi Bunny MITU Children Smart GPS Watch is now on sale in China and other global markets for 299 yuan (about US$60).
