Next-generation Apple MacBook Air to sport 12-inch display and fan-less design

Apple MacBook Air (2013)

Apple is reportedly set to unveil a refresh of its MacBook Air lineup in the not too distant fortune and it could be a significant one. According to a post on the Chinese forum Weiphone.com, Apple looks set to make a number of changes to its popular laptop. According to MacRumors, the post’s author has a history of credible leaks, giving these latest ones some credence.

Perhaps the most significant change may be that Apple will simplify the MacBook Air family and offer a single model instead of the current two. The new MacBook Air will reportedly sport a 12-inch display. If so, it would fall squarely between the current 11- and 13-inch models. If not, it may be a sign that Apple will later introduce a larger model (14-inch perhaps). The report does not indicate whether or not it could be a Retina Display.

The new MacBook Air may also drop the mechanical button on the trackpad in favour of a new solution that could replace it with force and optical sensors. This could allow Apple to make this next-generation Apple MacBook Air even thinner than it is now.

The report adds that an update to the MacBook Pro line is set to follow later in the year. It also lends further credence to rumours that Apple is working on an iWatch smartwatch. It suggests that Apple is still at the prototype stage and that an announcement is still some times away.
