TELUS mobile device chargers coming to Canadian taxis

If you often travel by taxi, the scramble to find a plug when you arrive at your location so that you can recharge your phone or tablet may soon no longer be needed. TELUS today announced that it is bringing cell phone and tablet chargers to Canadian taxis in Toronto, Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver. In partnership with Play Taxi Media, the carrier will deploy chargers to about 1,000 cabs to allow passengers to recharge their mobile devices free of charge, while on-the-go.

“It’s Murphy’s Law that your device battery will die right when you seem to need it the most,” says Anne-Marie Laberge, Vice President of Brand and Marketing Communications at TELUS. “We’ve all been there – running late for a dinner date with friends or in between meetings when your phone dies before an important conference call. Our in-taxi chargers are just one way that we’re working to put customers first – they offer a simple convenience that will go a long way in making their lives easier and more connected.”

The power docking station will be installed on the backside of the passenger seat headrest. Offering a variety of connectors, passengers will simply have to dock their device during the ride. Notes will also be posted on the windows to remind them to grab their device before leaving the cab.

The TELUS mobile device chargers will be “available through 2015” with Blacktop & Checker Cabs in Vancouver, Mayfair Taxi in Calgary, Ambassador Taxis in Toronto and Taxi Union in Montreal. Additional taxi companies chould join the program in “the coming months” as well.
