Zeaplus Watch is no Apple Watch but sure looks like one

Zeaplus WatchApple has often had to contend with companies looking to copy its award-winning designs. The upcoming Apple Watch, recipient just today of a Red Dot: Best of the Best Award, will be no different. In fact, a Chinese company is already getting ready to launch a smartwatch that may look quite familiar. In fact, all that the Zeaplus Watch is missing is Apple’s digital crown.

The similarities between the Zeaplus Watch and the Apple Watch are only skin deep. The former adds a number of features such as support for a SIM card so that it will not need to pair with a smartphone to make and receive calls. It is also compatible with both Android and iOS and sports a 2MP camera on the back, requiring you to take it off your wrist to use it.

As for sensors, it includes both a pedometer and heart rate monitor. With full details not announced yet, it is possible that it will include a few more as well.

Zeaplus Watch

Unlike the Apple Watch which will be available in three collections, the Zeaplus Watch will only come with an aluminium body available in silver, grey or gold. It will be water resistant but there are no details on the specific IP rating.

Originally expected at the end of March, the Zeaplus Watch is now expected to launch between April 10 and April 15. Pricing has not been announced but it is likely to be far less than the Apple Watch’s.

Zeaplus already offers the Zeaplus Watch G2 for US$69. This particular model bears an uncanny resemblance to the Samsung Gear 2 smartwatch.
