2nd generation Xbox specs leaked?

The folks over at GameSpy have apparently been chatting with the Xbox development community and some details on the next Xbox have come to light. Based on alpha development kits and current projections (read that to say that all of this is still subject to change), the Xbox will feature:

  • Three 3.0 GHz PowerPC cores, each with a 32KB data and a 32KB instruction L1 cache and sharing a 1MB or L2 cache
  • A next generation ATI adapter with a clock speed of 500 MHZ
  • 256 MB of system RAM (compared to 64 MB in the current Xbox) and memory cards running from 64 MB to 1 GB
  • Dual-layer DVD drive running at 12X – So no Blu-Ray or HD-DVD
  • An optional hard drive with capactiy still undetermined
  • A USB 2.0 camera capable of 1.2 megapixel still shots and VGA video
  • Sound will be provided by X3DAudio software

All games will apparently be Live enabled and should come in high-definion with a baseline of 720p at 1280×720 and 16:9 aspect ratio.
