For the 11th consecutive year, HP will provide the
Boston Marathon with the technology to track participants
participating in the marathon.
The HP Athlete Search System is powered by a wireless network
that uses HP Integrity servers, industry-standard HP ProLiant servers,
HP iPAQ Pocket PC handheld devices and HP ProCurve networking
products. The network dispenses information on the Verizon Wireless
National Access wireless data network to provide participant updates
at designated sites along the marathon route and at the finish
line.
The iPAQs will be used by HP volunteers who will provide runner
information to anyone providing a name or bib number. The data
provided will include an instant update of the participant’s nearest
checkpoint location.
