Improving PDA and phone camera lenses

Quebec researchers are working on a new lens that should dramatically improve the quality of pictures taken using PDAs and mobile phones. The new lens is thinner than a sheet of paper and, despite not having any moving parts, can zoom and focus. The result should be much sharper images than are currently possible.

Tigran Galstian, the engineer and physicist at Laval University, who worked on the lens is now looking for an industrial partner to build prototypes.

Another use for the lens could be in super-lightweight eyeglasses.
