AppleInsider is reporting that Apple is working on reducing dependency on outsourcing components. In one such initiative, Apple will use a new scroll wheel designed by its own engineers in upcoming fifth generation iPods rather than using the Synaptic click wheel now so famous. The new iPods could also sport user-replaceable batteries that promise better lifespans and runtimes.
As to when we could see the new iPods, it sounds like it will be a little bit later this year.
