Seagate has begun to ship limited quantities of its new 8GB, 1-inch ST1 series hard drive to OEM customers. Primarily intended for portable audio players and other handheld storage devices such as CF cards, the drive will allow storage of up to 4000 songs. The drive also supports low-power modes, takes only 1.2 seconds to be ready for use and offers G-Force protection to make the drive more reliable.
The ST1 series microdrive is also available in a 4GB capacity model.
