Windows Longhorn becomes Windows Vista

Microsoft has revealed the the next version of Windows, currently codenamed Longhorn, will be called Windows Vista. Apparently, Microsoft took about 8 months researching potential names before settling for Vista. “Clear, Confident, Connected: Bringing clarity to your world,” is the accompanying tag line.

The first beta (targeting developers and IT professionals) is expected in early August with a more widespread second beta to come in the second half of the year. Final shipment is now expected in the 2nd half of 2006 with a server version to follow in 2007.
